Start with the record, not the answer
FiscalOS begins with the source available to the business: an invoice, bill, receipt, bank transaction, imported balance, or manually documented event. The record can remain a draft while details are corrected. Posting is a separate, controlled event.
Money is stored in integer minor units with an explicit currency. The system does not convert accounting amounts to floating-point numbers for convenience, because a convenience rounding error is still an accounting error.
Document → validate → post
Each domain follows the same basic lifecycle. The document is captured, required facts are validated, accounting lines are balanced, and the authorized person confirms the result. Every journal entry then passes through one posting gate under the company’s database scope.
Capture
Retain the business document, period, currency, counterparty, amounts, and available evidence.
Validate
Check document state, account mapping, balance, period controls, duplicates, and required approvals.
Approve
Maya may prepare a proposal, but a permitted human decides whether it can proceed.
Post once
Create the balanced journal entry through the shared gate and retain its provenance.
Imports are staged, not trusted
QuickBooks Online and Xero report connections are review-first. File imports support CSV, OFX/QFX, CAMT.053, XLSX, and MT940 where the workflow applies. Provider access or an uploaded file never posts directly to the ledger.
FiscalOS validates control totals, maps accounts, checks duplicate source identifiers, and asks a person to confirm the opening or imported balances. A mismatch remains visible instead of being forced into a balancing account without explanation.
Corrections preserve history
Posted journal entries and lines are append-only. A correction creates a linked reversal and, when appropriate, a new corrected entry. This keeps the original decision, the correction, the actor, and the accounting period visible to reviewers.
Statement readiness is more than a rendered report. FiscalOS checks ledger balance, reconciliation state, open review items, period controls, and supporting evidence before presenting the statements as ready for careful use.
